One of the first questions I am asked is “How do I find my federal student loans?”
Many times clients have never received payment notification, their federal student loans have changed servicing so many times, or it has been so long since they thought about their student loans that they no longer no who to pay. Learn how to resolve student loan problems here.
All federally backed student loans along with their repayment status are entered into the National Student Loan Data System. To see what types of federall back student loans you have:
- Request a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the Department of Education: www.pin.ed.gov
- Use the PIN to look up your loans in the National Student Loan Data System: www.nslds.ed.gov
If you borrowed commercial student loans, you can check their status by requesting a credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com.
